비유하자면 구약은 밑그림이고 신약은 완성된 그림이다.
밑그림은 전체적인 윤곽만 보여줄 뿐이지만 색칠이 끝난 그림은 모든 것을 자세히 보여준다.
하지만 밑그림과 완성된 그림은 서로 다른 별개의 그림들이 아니고 한 그림인데
단지 그 선명도에 있어서 차이가 날 뿐이다.
마찬가지다. 구약은 예수님을 보여주는 책이지만 신약 만큼 선명하지 않다.
예수님과 분리시킨 상태에서 구약을 읽는 것은 잘못된 접근법이다.
그렇게 하면 구약 읽기가 지루한 노동으로 전락되고
영혼의 양식인 복음의 섭취가 일어나지 않기 때문에 영적인 기아 상태에 빠지게 된다.
구약의 어느 페이지를 펴도 그곳에는 예수님을 통한 하나님의 구원의 스토리가 흐른다.
그것을 찾아낼 때 비로소 구약 읽기는 신바람 나는 복음 섭취가 된다.
Encountering Jesus in the Old Testament
The Old Testament can be compared to an outline,
while the New Testament is the completed picture.
The outline shows only the general contours,
but the completed picture reveals everything in detail. However,
they are not separate drawings but the same picture, differing only in clarity.
Similarly, the Old Testament reveals Jesus, but not as clearly as the New Testament.
Reading the Old Testament without connecting it to Jesus is a wrong approach.
This makes reading the Old Testament a tedious task, and without the nourishment of the gospel, it can lead to spiritual starvation.
On any page of the Old Testament, the story of God's salvation through Jesus flows.
When this is discovered, reading the Old Testament becomes an exciting engagement
with the gospel.
